--> On very fewer situations you need to do the clean installation ( Deleting total data present in the F5 Device) of BIG IP F5 device in order to avoid upgrade or any other situation.
--> Better to take backup license file and configuration file before performing the task.
--> You can do this task using DVD Drive or USB Drive.
--> You will need the following things to perform the clean install:
i) The F5 BIG-IP Image (.iso) that you want to install on the device.
ii) Check the checksum using md5checksum command on Linux machine after downloading the ISO image from F5 Website. (Don't skip this step)
ii) Any software which creates the bootable USB drive from the OS Image ( For Example UNetbootin).
iii) Installation Method ( USB Drive/PXE Server/DVD-ROM)
iv) Access to the F5 with Serial Console connection.
Step1: Creating the bootable USB drive
i) Plug in the USB drive to the PC/LAPTOP where you have installed UNetbootin software.
ii) Format the USB drive as FAT32.
Step2: Installing the new OS on the F5 BIG-IP
i) Connect a PC/Laptop to the console port of the BIG-IP F5 and insert the USB drive.
ii) Power off/ Power On the F5 on and let the F5 device boot into the Maintainance Operating System (MOS) from the USB drive.
iii) Please select the terminal emulation (vt100).
iv) Delete all the data present in the F5 system using the following command:
diskinit --style <volumes | partitions>
v) Install the new F5 Operating System using following command:
image2disk --format=<volumes | partitions> --nosaveconfig --nosavelicense
vi) After the installation, Remove the USB drive from the F5 and reboot the system.
Note: reboot may take longer than usual as it performs all the first-time initialization tasks.
