F5 Networks Server Load Balancing from Web Interface

How to Set Up Load Balancing from F5 Networks Web Interface?
  • First of all, general network adjustments should be made. In the interface at the network side, VLAN definition of servers can be made. The important part is that if the VLAN is going to be tagged or untagged.
  • In the second step, the Self-IP with its own leg IP is defined which can be communicated with the server block. Self-IP is defined by IP, netmask and VLAN where it is located.
  • In the next step, route description is made which is the last network adjustment. Route is under network section. Finally, default gateway is defined with pushing on the create button.
Now we can access to the local traffic.
  • . Initially, the server should be defined. Node section can be found under the local traffic and server can be defined by clicking “create” button. Then, Server IP should be entered. Monitor which is special for node can be demonstrated. Also, connection number which comes over it, can be limited.
  • Pool description should be made after node description is made.
Pools are located under local traffic. Clicking to the “create” button on the screen which is located at the right side. “Node list” option is selected from New Members tab on the screen and defined node can be found. Then, activated application’s service port info is entered into the underside and add buฤฑtton is clicked. If there are more than one server, this process is replayed. Also, our load balancing method is selected from list. Service based monitor can be defined on this screen.

  • Our next process is creating a virtual server that welcomes the requests from external. To create our virtual machine, Virtual Services section can be reached under Virtual Servers. New virtual server is going to be created by clicking “create”.  Initially, IP is entered which sends the answers to the external. Virtual Server type is selected from list with making decision and port info that provides service to the external is entered into the “Service Port”. Required profiles are selected one by one from the list. For instance, if it is an HTTP application, then profile is selected from HTTP Profile section.

Initially, requested profiles should be created from Profiles to specialize them.  If SSL Offload is requested, clientssl profile is going to be created from profile part according to server’s certificate. Then, client profile which is created at SSL Profile (Client) part that is located inside of the virtual server, should be moved to the right side. If SSL re-encryption is preferred, serverssl profile is created according to server’s certificate from profile side.  Then, Clientssl profile and SSL Profile should be moved to the right side.
  • Finally, pool which was created in previous step at Default pool section, is selected from the list and this process is completed by clicking “Finished”.
Note: Initially the certificate, which is used at server, must be loaded into the F5 system to make SSL profile adjustment. “File Management” should be reached under system part to reach “SSL Certificate List” section. After that, server certificate is uploaded into F5 from “SSL Certificate List” part.
